Drawing Animals

September 4, 11, 18, 25, Oct 2, 9

5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Guided by: JC Amberlyn

All Levels. Ages 12+

This course is intended for all skill levels, though someone with at least a basic understanding of drawing will probably get the most benefit from the class. In six weeks, JC Amberlyn will cover basic drawing techniques, including how to draw fur, feathers, scales, moist noses, and eyes, and she will teach step by step instructions from her book as well as other material. Students will learn about the importance of understanding anatomy and how to build both realistic and more stylized animal drawings from that basic anatomical knowledge. The class will cover some basic animal groups, including domestic animals like cats, dogs, and horses as well as wild animals (focusing on North American species). There will be opportunities to draw objects like animal skulls as well as draw living animal subjects from life. JC Amberlyn will critique student’s work and offer suggestions on how to improve one’s art. Students will finish the class with a greater understanding of animal anatomy, drawing techniques for things like eyes and fur, and guidance on how to continue improving their knowledge and skills after the course.

Drawing 1: Learning Visual Communication

September 7, 14, 21, 28, October 5, 12

9:00 am- 12:00 pm

Guided by: Greg Heil

All Levels. Ages 16+

The purpose of this drawing class is to begin the process of teaching students how to visually communicate. This begins with teaching classical drawing techniques and evolves to letting the student pursue their own interests as they learn how to communicate in a visual way.

Greg expects the students to c

omplete in-studio assignments as well as out of class research and sketch drawing assignments. Drawing is the foundation of all 2D visual art. A good understanding of drawing will allow you to succeed in any other mediums. Greg will teach the class as a medium atheist – in other words, no matter the medium one choses, the underpinnings of how its used is essentially the same as teaching the foundation of drawing will allow complete freedom of medium from painting, pastel, ink, and pencil. When you unlock the knowledge of how to draw, you give complete freedom to the artist to what only their mind can imagine.
